O grave of Fatimah, which has no equal

Among Taybah's graves—sweet is the repose within you.

For within you rests a piece of the Guide's flesh, whose

Unveiled facial beauties have adorned you.

    أَوْ لَمْ تَبِنْ بَدْراً فما أَخفيتا

    If you lie far from him, you have not parted in estrangement;

Or if you do not appear as a full moon, you have not hidden one.

So may rain water your soil, as long as there remain upon it

Gleams of graves in Taybah, and you endure.

For indeed, her fragrance has kept you perfumed,

To the nostrils, you smell like finely powdered musk.

And indeed I contemplated the graves and their inhabitants,

So my thoughts were scattered over them, utterly scattered.

How many brought near are kept far away, and how many distant ones

Are brought near—then my heart was beset as by a demon.
