أَمَاindeed والّذيby the One who أَصْفَاكَfavored you with مِنّيfrom me مَوَدَّةًaffection
وحُبّاًand love لكُمْfor you (plural) فيin حَبّةِthe core of القَلْبِthe heart يُغْرَسُis planted
Indeed, by the One who bestowed my pure affection on you,
By Him who purged my heart of all but love for you,
And love for you that is planted in the heart’s core,
And set in it a passion that will ever grow,
لَئِنْif indeed ظَلَّhas remained ليfor me مِنْfrom فَقْدِthe loss of وَجْهِكَyour face مُوحِشٌa source of loneliness
لَقَدْsurely ظَلَّhas remained ليfor me مِنْfrom طُولِthe long duration of ذِكْرِكَremembering you مُؤْنِسُa comforting companion
If your face’s absence still leaves me lonely,
Though your absence leaves me desolate and drear,
Long remembrance of you surely still keeps me company.
Yet dreaming of you stills my spirit, for I see
I converse intimately with you بالأَوْهَامِthrough imaginings حَتّىuntil كَأنّماas though
أَرَاكَI see you بِعَيْنَيْwith the two eyes of فِكْرَتيmy thought حينَwhen أَجْلِسُI sit
I converse with you in my imaginings, until it is as though
Your image with my inward eye whene’er I rest.
I see you with my mind’s two eyes as I sit.
