ذهبَare gone الذينthose who إذاwhenever رأونيthey saw me مقبلاapproaching
ذهبَ الذين إذا رأوني مقبلا
هشواthey brightened with joy إليّtoward me ورحّبواand they welcomed بالمقبلthe one arriving
هشوا إليّ ورحّبوا بالمقبل
Gone are those who, whenever they saw me approaching,
Those who when they saw me coming,
greeted me joyfully and welcomed the one arriving.
Would rush to greet the new arrival,
وهمand they الذينthose who إذاwhenever حملتُI shouldered حمالةًan obligation undertaken for others
وهم الذين إذا حملتُ حمالةً
وليقتهُمand I met them فكأنّنيso it was as though I لمdid not أحملbear
وليقتهُم فكأنّني لم أحمل
And they were those who, whenever I shouldered an obligation
Are the same who now that I bear a burden,
and met them, it was as though I had shouldered none.
Act as though I wasn't carrying anything.
