أَنْحَلني حبُّك يا مُتْلِفي

أَنْحَلني حبُّك يا مُتْلِفي

وزادَني الشوقُ فلم أَعْرِفِ

Your love has wasted me away, O my destroyer.

Your love undid me, my unifier

And longing wasted me further, till I was unrecognizable.

And longing took me, beyond knowing

وذبتُ حتى لو رمى بي الهوى

وذبتُ حتى لو رمى بي الهوى

في ناظرِ الناظرِ لم يَطْرف

في ناظرِ الناظرِ لم يَطْرف

And I melted so completely that, were passion to cast me

I melted, so even if passion flung me

Into the beholder’s pupil, he would not blink.

Into the gazer's eyes, I would not blink

وجُلتُ في ناحيةٍ طولُها

وجُلتُ في ناحيةٍ طولُها

كعَرْضِ حَدِّ الصارِمِ المُرْهَف

كعَرْضِ حَدِّ الصارِمِ المُرْهَف

And I wandered through a region whose length

I wandered in a region as long

Was like the width of a finely honed sword’s edge.

As the keen, honed blade is wide
