لقد جُدْتَ حتى ما دَنا منك وافدُ

لقد جُدْتَ حتى ما دَنا منك وافدُ

وخَوَّفتَ حتى ما نَأَى عنك عازبُ

You have been so generous that no visitor drew near you;

You were so generous to all who came to visit

And you have inspired such fear that no distant man kept away from you.

وقد اثْنَتِ الدنيا عليك وأهلُها

فأَنْسَيْتَ من أَثنتْ عليه الحَقائب

The world and its people have indeed praised you;

So you have made people forget those whom the saddlebags praised.

Yet you forgot those whom satchels have praised
