to which a seeker's soul aspires in the heights of glory.

from anyone among mankind, townsman or nomad.

I recite his radiant virtues, which have strung

the pearls of speech, while others are still at their ABCs.

O son of those of Hashim who went before, whose

praise the singer repeats before the assembled company!

What are my praise and mankind's praise of you worth, when

you were praised in Revelation, which came first and is manifest?

Prayer has its perfection in the mention of you all,

within it, at every going forth and coming in.

O handhold—those who cling to it have triumphed!

You are the intercessor, the guide who leads aright.

Were it not for your guidance and the justice you spread,

mankind would become small sheep amid lions.

and whoever else claims it is a usurping aggressor.

You will yet gain in full what you are entitled to possess,

by revealed scripture, not reports from single transmitters,

already tormented by thirst before reaching it,

to be measured against peers or equals.

after first sending lightning and thunder ahead.

    writhed in grief amid shackles.

seeking that meeting, traveling by day and by night,

to gain three things from you, which will be for it

the noblest provisions until a year has run its course.

the great ones—then follow them with enemies and enviers.

For you are the feast; as long as you remain at ease,

every feast comes to us, evening and morning.
