أَفْرطbecame excessive نسيانيmy forgetfulness إلىto غايةٍan extreme limit
لمdid not تُبْقleave فيin النسيانِforgetfulness ليfor me جِنْساa peer
My forgetfulness reached such an extreme
My excessive forgetting has reached
that it left me no peer in forgetfulness.
A point where nothing remains in my memory
فصرتُso I became مهماwhenever عَرَضتْarose حاجةٌa need
أُعْنَىI am concerned بهاwith it أَودعتُهاI recorded it طِرْساa writing sheet
So whenever a need arose
So whenever there arises a need
that concerned me, I would record it on a sheet,
I consign it to oblivion
حتىso that إذاwhen عاودتُI returned طالعتُهاI read it
ذَكَّرتِreminded العينُthe eye بهاof it النفساthe soul
so that, when I returned and read it,
Until when I reconsider it
the eye would remind the soul of it.
My eyes remind my soul about it
وأعجبُand the strangest ألأشياءَof things أنْthat غادرتْleft
نوائبcalamities الأزمانِof time ليfor me حساsense
And strangest of all is that
And the strangest thing is that time's afflictions
the calamities of time have left me any sense at all.
Have left in me no sense
فصرتُso I came to أنسىforget الطِّرْسَthe sheet فيin راحتيmy palm
وصرتُand I came to أنسىforget أننيthat I أَنْسىforget
So I came to forget the sheet in my palm,
So I forget vexation in my comfort
and I came to forget that I forget.
And I forget that I forget
