واسمعْ بَدائعَ تشبيهٍ وتمثيلِ

Look at the lush garden and the Nile,

Look at the flowered garden and the Nile

And hear marvels of simile and analogy.

And hear the wonders of simile and parable

وانظرْ إلى البحرِ مجموعا ومفترِقا

وانظرْ إلى البحرِ مجموعا ومفترِقا

هناك أَشْبهُ شيءٍ بالسَّراويل

هناك أَشْبهُ شيءٍ بالسَّراويل

And look at the sea, gathered together and divided:

And look at the sea, gathered and scattered

There, nothing more closely resembles a pair of trousers.

There the most similar thing to pants

والريحُ يَطْويه أحيانا ويَنُشره

نسيمُها بين تَفْريكٍ وتَعْديل

And the wind sometimes folds it and unfolds it,

Its breeze alternating between crumpling and straightening.

Its breeze between separation and gathering
