شُرْبُك حبَّ الفهمِ صعبٌ فلا

شُرْبُك حبَّ الفهمِ صعبٌ فلا

يَغرُّك ألأمرُ بأنْ تَشْرَبَهْ

يَغرُّك ألأمرُ بأنْ تَشْرَبَهْ

It is hard for you to drink the pill of understanding, so do not

Drinking the wine of understanding is hard, so do not

let the command beguile you into drinking it.

Be misled into thinking you should drink it.

لكنَّ للنسيانِ حُبّا وقد

لكنَّ للنسيانِ حُبّا وقد

صح لبعض الناس بالتجربْه

صح لبعض الناس بالتجربْه

But there is a pill for forgetfulness, and indeed

But forgetfulness too has its loved ones, and for some

it has proved true for some people through experience.

Experience has shown it can be good.

وشَرْحُه عند أبي عامر

وشَرْحُه عند أبي عامر

فلا يَفوتَنَّك أنْ تكتبه

فلا يَفوتَنَّك أنْ تكتبه

And its explanation is with Abu Amir,

Its meaning, as Abu Amir explains it,

so do not fail to write it down.

Should not escape you - be sure to write it down.

ففَهْمُهُ يُنْبِيك عن صِدْقه

ففَهْمُهُ يُنْبِيك عن صِدْقه

بشاهدٍ كَذَّب مَنْ كَذَّبه

بشاهدٍ كَذَّب مَنْ كَذَّبه

For understanding it tells you of its truth,

Grasping it will save you from doubting its truth

with a witness who refuted whoever denied it.

Despite the witness who declared it a lie.

لو كان بالنسيانِ يُحْوَى العُلا

لو كان بالنسيانِ يُحْوَى العُلا

صَحَّ له أَرفعُها مَرْتبه

صَحَّ له أَرفعُها مَرْتبه

If the heights were attained through forgetfulness,

If by forgetfulness the highest could be attained,

their highest rank would rightly be his.

It would rightly occupy the highest rank.
