How splendid the plump pear! Through it I recalled

what I used to know in my earliest days.

I never brought it near my mouth without imagining it

a breast, delicious to bite with kisses.

Indeed, I tasted in its flavor what nearly carried me

to what I tasted sipping a beloved's lips in fear.

It resembles flasks of rosewater, mingled

within them with saffron, musk, and honey.

How welcome its visit—if only it would last,

and it would stay throughout, never departing.

If I held sway over the earth, it would bear no

plant but it, on plain or mountain.
