فثَغْرىso my mouth عنهماfrom both of them ناءٍfar away شَتيتُseparated
فثَغْرى عنهما ناءٍ شَتيتُ
At the seaport, a mouth with parted teeth has become mine;
Tomorrow my mouth will bear two mouths,
So my own mouth is far from both, estranged.
And my mouth will be torn away from them both in sorrow.

رَشْتُ به ثَنايا في ثَنايا

كأن المِسْك بينهما فَتيت
[Unclear verb] there, incisors amid mountain passes,
With it I grazed upon cheeks amidst cheeks,
As though musk lay crumbled between the two.
As if musk permeated between them.

ينوحُ حمامُها لي كيف شِيتُ
This one's daisies are like the other's daisies;
These bruises are like those bruises,
Its doves lament for me however I wish.
Their doves mourn for me however I wish.

أطالَ عليهما لومي عذولٌ

خَليٌّ لا يَبيتُ كما أَبِيتُ
A fault-finder has long reproached me over both,
Reproach prolonged upon them, a night companion
Carefree, he does not spend the night as I do.
Who does not spend the night as I spend it.

Away from my dwelling, my wealth is poverty;
My singing voice next to those other than my singing voice is destitution,
And even if I grew wealthy there, I would perish.
And had I become wealthy through it, I would have perished.

And I have a lasting hope that does not perish;
And I have a long hope that does not fade away,
And were it not for what I hope for, I would perish.
And were it not for what I hope for, I would have perished.
