Ah, many a full moon has spent the night giving my ear

And my mouth sips of his delectable saliva and speech.

Yet I grew thirsty while he gave me draughts unceasingly,

And my old longing for him was like the new.

And he departed, the whiteness of his honor untouched

By any hand of suspicion from me seeking to sully it.

And night conceals him with the loose folds of its cloak,

And dawn reveals him with its swift advance.

So dawn seems to come with the radiance of his face,

And night to depart with his luxuriant curls—

The face of the most exalted, most excellent king, whose

Lions in battle are pierced in the breast.

A king who, when he hears one crying for help far away,

Answers him, then himself becomes his rescuer.

A giver: when the cloud is miserly with its rain,

The bounty of his rains waters all the earth.

He raised lofty glories upon a firm foundation

Of excellence, passed down to him through his inheritance.

And terror is the first of his messengers to his enemy:

So beware, then beware, of his emissary.
