فَلا تُفسِدَن خَمسينَ أَلفاً وَهَبتَها

فَلا تُفسِدَن خَمسينَ أَلفاً وَهَبتَها

وَعِشرَةَ أَحوالٍ وَحَقَّ تَناسُبِ

وَعِشرَةَ أَحوالٍ وَحَقَّ تَناسُبِ

So do not spoil the fifty thousand you bestowed,

Do not ruin the fifty thousand you have given her

and years of companionship and the claim of kinship,

And the ten circumstances and the right proportions

وَشُكراً تَهاداهُ الرِجالُ تَهادِياً

وَشُكراً تَهاداهُ الرِجالُ تَهادِياً

إِلى كُلِّ مِصرٍ بَينَ جاءٍ وَذاهِبِ

إِلى كُلِّ مِصرٍ بَينَ جاءٍ وَذاهِبِ

and the gratitude men have passed to one another as gifts,

And thanks the men give each other

to every city, among those coming and going,

To every place between one who comes and goes

بِلا زَلَّةٍ كانَت وَإِن تَكُ زَلَّةٌ

بِلا زَلَّةٍ كانَت وَإِن تَكُ زَلَّةٌ

فَإِنَّ عَلَيكَ العَفوَ ضَربَةُ لازِبِ

فَإِنَّ عَلَيكَ العَفوَ ضَربَةُ لازِبِ

without any fault having occurred—and even if there is a fault,

Without a slip there was and if there is a slip

for forgiveness is a binding obligation upon you.

Then for you is forgiveness a blow of fate
