Salih and his guests captured the muezzin,
Salih has captured the muezzin and his guests
As one captures an armored warrior who had stumbled in the fray.
The perfidious one has seized the palm-fiber rover
بَعَثواthey sent عَلَيهِagainst him بَنيهِمُtheir sons وَبَناتِهِمand their daughters

They set their sons and daughters upon him,
They sent against him their sons and daughters
Among them, one plucking his hair and another slapping him.
From among the wailing women and others falling
يَتَنازَعونَthey tussle كَأَنَّهُمas though they قَدalready أَوثَقواthey bound

They tussled as though they had bound
They struggle as though they've shackled
Khaqan, or routed the battalions of Naʿit.
A Khan or routed the brigades of Na'it

They bit him, and their teeth were wrenched out as a result,
They gnawed him till their teeth were pulled out
And the backs of their heads were smashed against the wall.
And their skulls were smashed on the wall
