أَسرَ الكَمِيِّ هَفا خِلالَ الماقِطِ
Ṣāliḥ and his guests captured the muezzin,
Saleh and his guests captured the muezzin
as one captures an armored warrior who has stumbled amid the fray.
The flimsy one was captured amidst the palm trees
بَعَثواthey sent عَلَيهِagainst him بَنيهِمُtheir sons وَبَناتِهِمand their daughters
بَعَثوا عَلَيهِ بَنيهِمُ وَبَناتِهِم

مِن بَينِ ناتِفَةٍ وَآخَرَ سامِطِ
They sent their sons and daughters against him,
They sent against him their sons and daughters
among them, one plucking and another scalding.
Among the wailing women and others falling down
يَتَنازَعونَthey tussle كَأَنَّهُمas though they قَدalready أَوثَقواthey bound fast

خاقانَ أَو هَزَموا كَتائِبَ ناعِطِ
They tussled as though they had bound
They were pulling him as if they had bound
Khāqān, or routed the battalions of Nāʿiṭ.
A Khan or defeated battalions of Na'it
نَهَشوهُthey bit him فَاِنتُزِعَتso were torn out لَهُbecause of him أَسنانُهُمtheir teeth

وَتَهَشَّمَت أَقفاؤُهُم بِالحائِطِ
They bit into him, and their teeth were torn out because of him,
They tore at him until their teeth were pulled out
and the backs of their heads were smashed against the wall.
And their heels were smashed against the wall
