أَرى مِنّا قَريباً بَيتَ زَورٍ

أَرى مِنّا قَريباً بَيتَ زَورٍ

وَزَورٌ لا يَزورُ وَلا يُزارُ

وَزَورٌ لا يَزورُ وَلا يُزارُ

I see Zawr’s house close to us.

I see a poorly built house among us

And Zawr neither visits nor is visited.

A flimsy house that welcomes no guest

وَلا يُهدي وَلا يُهدي إِلَيهِ

وَلا يُهدي وَلا يُهدي إِلَيهِ

وَلَيسَ كَذاكَ في العَرَبِ الجِوارُ

وَلَيسَ كَذاكَ في العَرَبِ الجِوارُ

Nor does he give gifts, nor does anyone give gifts to him.

Nor gives a gift, nor accepts any

And that is not neighborliness among the Arabs.

Not so it is with Arabs and their neighbors
