اللَهُGod أَجرىcaused to flow مِنَof الأَرزاقِthe provisions أَكثَرَهاmost of them
عَلىthrough يَدَيكَyour two hands بِخَيرٍin goodness ياO أَباAbu (father of) دُلَفِDulaf
God has made the greater share of sustenance flow
God made most of the sustenance
Through your hands in goodness, O Abu Dulaf.
Flow through your hands with goodness, O Abu Dulaf,
ماnever خَطَّwrote لا'no' كاتِباهُhis two scribes فيin صَحيفَتِهِhis record
كَماas تُخَطَّطُis written لا'no' فيin سائِرِthe rest of الصُحُفِthe records
His two scribes have never written 'no' in his record,
Not as it is prescribed by the writers in their pages,
As 'no' is written in the other records.
Nor as it is allotted in the rest of the scriptures.
بارىvied with الرِياحَthe winds فَأَعطىand he gave وَهيَwhile they جارِيَةٌwere blowing
حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen وَقَفَتthey stopped أَعطىhe gave وَلَمand did not يَقِفِstop
He vied with the winds, giving while they blew;
He brought winds and gave while they were blowing,
When at last they stopped, he still gave and did not stop.
Until when they stopped, He gave and did not stop.
ماwhat يَصنَعُdoes الشَيخُthe old man بِالعَذراءِwith the virgin يَملِكُهاhe owns her
كَجَوزَةٍlike a walnut بَينَbetween فَكَّيthe two jaws of أَدرَدٍa toothless man خَرِفِsenile
What can an old man do with a virgin he owns?
Of what use is the old man with the young maiden he owns
Like a walnut between the jaws of a toothless, senile man.
Like a walnut between the jaws of a toothless doddering old man.
إِنif رامَhe tries يَكسِرُهاto crack it بِالسِنِّwith the tooth تَثلِمُهُit chips it (the tooth)
وَكَسرُهاand cracking it راحَةٌrelief لِلهائِمِfor the lovesick one الدَنِفِailing
If he tries to crack it with his tooth, it chips the tooth;
If he tries to crack it with his teeth, it will injure him,
And cracking it brings relief to the lovesick, ailing man.
And to crack it is a comfort to the vile abject wretch.
