صَدِّقBelieve أَليَّتَهُhis oath إِنif قالَhe says مُجتَهِداًearnestly
لاNo وَالرَغيفِby the loaf فَذاكَfor that البَرُّthe truthful one مِنamong قَسَمِهhis oaths
Believe his oath if he says in earnest,
Believe his complaint if he says it while striving
“No, by the loaf!”—that is the truthful one among his oaths.
No, by the loaf, for that is the righteous part of his share
فَإِنso if هَمَمتَyou intend harm بِهِto him فَاِفتِكthen strike بِخُبزَتِهِat his loaf
فَإِنَّfor indeed مَوقِعَهاits place مِنin relation to لَحمِهِhis flesh وَدَمِهِand his blood
So if you mean him harm, strike at his loaf,
So if you intend for it, then take his bread
For it is as dear to him as his flesh and blood.
For its place is from his flesh and blood
قَدindeed كانَwas يُعجِبُنيpleasing to me لَوif أَنَّthat غَيرَتَهُhis jealous protectiveness
عَلىover جَرادِقِهِhis flatbreads كانَتhad been عَلىover حُرَمِهhis womenfolk
I would have been pleased if his jealous protectiveness
I would have liked it if his zeal
Over his flatbreads had been over his womenfolk.
For his tents had been for his harem
