عنfrom البصرthe sight القلبيِّof the heart أوشكَnearly أنto يَعمَىgo blind
If the praiseworthy sun of the sciences sets
If the sun of knowledge declines graciously
beyond the heart's sight, that sight nearly goes blind;
From the heart's sight, it is about to go blind,
وحالَand intervened حجابُthe veil الجهلِof ignorance دونَin the way of نفوذهِits penetration
فلاقىso it encountered فضاءthe expanse العلمِof knowledge يرميit shoots ولاand not يُرمَىis shot at
and the veil of ignorance bars its penetration,
And the veil of ignorance prevents its penetration,
so it encounters the expanse of knowledge, shooting but not being shot at.
It finds the space of knowledge shooting but not shot.
وماand not ظَنُّناour belief فيconcerning شمسِناour sun أنَّthat نورهاits light
يغيبُvanishes فيُبديso it reveals فيin بصائرِناour inner perceptions كلماa wound
Nor do we suppose that our sun's light
We did not think that our sun, its light
will vanish, revealing a wound in our inner sight.
Would set, showing in our visions, always.
فإنso if قَضتِdecreed الأيامُthe days فيهconcerning it بغيبةٍto absence
بكيناwe wept فأضحىso became مُوقُthe inner eye-corner ناظرِهاof its beholder يدمىbleeds
So if the days decree its absence,
If the days decided on its absence,
we shall weep, and its beholder's inner eye-corner will begin to bleed.
We cried, so its watcher's place is tearful.
فياso, O منwho أعارَlent الشمسَthe sun نورَthe light كمالهِof his perfection
فأكسبَهاso endowed it مِنfrom علمِthe knowledge بهجتهِof his splendor عِلماknowledge
So, O you who lent the sun the light of your perfection,
O you who lent the sun the light of your perfection,
and gave it knowledge from the knowledge of your splendor,
Giving it from your knowledge its joyous knowledge.

Bestow upon our minds its radiance,
so that your light may show us quality and quantity,
So that it shows us its how and how much.

And how can its essence's display be seen through it,
and in relations, you do not see yourself named by them,
And in the extent that you are seen through it, you are named?

Clarifying in the act or in the passion,
and you are worthy to answer concerning the greatest matter.
And you are worthy of answering the greatest.
