Where no vicissitudes carry lessons in their folds,

the ages became everlasting being, and time vanished.

For there is nothing but the intimations of intellects; so nothing

else has a way by which you may seek the path.

unless you tread the peaks as their course ascends.

through it, their journey draws the far-off cleft near.

hills made into veils before them by desire's transgressions.

radiance in every gathering, that they may take radiance as their way.

Until they were made to kneel at a gate fortified

by the lowliest demon of a soul that had long strayed.

My mind came to it in fear; and when it drew near

to a shore of kindness toward whoever visits Him, it grew safe.

The hands of His generosity garlanded it with favors

that, through His gentleness, restored strength to its soul.
