أَعَبدَ اللَهِ إِن سَبَّتكَ عِرسي

أَعَبدَ اللَهِ إِن سَبَّتكَ عِرسي

تَساقَطَ بَعضُ لَحمي قَبلَ بَعضِ

تَساقَطَ بَعضُ لَحمي قَبلَ بَعضِ

O Abd Allah, if my wife insults you,

I worship Allah, though you abuse me,

May my flesh fall away, one part before another.

And pieces of my flesh fall off before others.

إِذا عِرسُ اِمرِئٍ شَتَمَت أَخاهُ

إِذا عِرسُ اِمرِئٍ شَتَمَت أَخاهُ

فَلَيسَ فُؤادُ شانِئِهِ بِحَمضِ

فَلَيسَ فُؤادُ شانِئِهِ بِحَمضِ

When a man's wife insults his brother,

When a man's honour is abused he reviles his abuser;

Then his enemy's heart is no sour herbage.

But his heart has no rancour.

مَعاذَ اللَهِ أَن يَشتُمنَ رَهطي

مَعاذَ اللَهِ أَن يَشتُمنَ رَهطي

وَأَن يَملِكنَ إِبرامي وَنَقضي

وَأَن يَملِكنَ إِبرامي وَنَقضي

God forbid that they should insult my clan,

God forbid that my people should abuse me,

And that they should control my binding and unbinding.

Or that I should control my frown and undoing.
