I called the clan of Nasr, and they raised their cries,
with noble young men and gray-haired elders,
عَلىon جُردٍsleek horses كَأَمثالِlike the likenesses of السَعاليthe she-ghouls

on sleek horses resembling she-ghouls,
and foot soldiers like the serpents of the sand dune.

They did not lose courage, but we aimed
the points of the Sharʿabi swords at their hearts.

How many they left struck down, fallen face-down,
spewing thick blood from a deep, gushing wound.

And that is the custom of the sons of Rabab,
whenever death is close at hand.

وَكُلُّand every كَريمَةٍnoble woman خَوٍّsoft-bodied عَروبِloving toward her husband
So they fled, and the grazing herds were ours for the taking,
and every noble, soft-bodied, loving woman.

And Ibn Bakr was left on a battlefield,
captive between a male hyena and a wolf.
