Greet Tumāḍir and linger, my companions.

And halt, for your halting is enough for me.

O Khunās, my heart has indeed gone mad with love for you,

And love has afflicted it with consuming sickness.

Never have I seen or heard of anyone

Like today's dauber of mangy she-camels:

In plain working clothes, their beauty showing,

Applying tar to the patches of mange,

With skin bared, they sprinkled tar over themselves,

As perfume is sprinkled on a wrap of striped cloth.

So ask them about me, Khunās, when

Calamity bites everyone, what part I play.
