مُجاوِرَةٌ سَوادَ النيرِ حَتّى

مُجاوِرَةٌ سَوادَ النيرِ حَتّى

تَضَمَّنَها غُرَيقَةُ فَالجِفارُ

تَضَمَّنَها غُرَيقَةُ فَالجِفارُ

Dwelling beside the dark mass of al-Nīr, until

Dwelling by the banks of the river until

Ghurayqah, then al-Jifār, enfolded her.

She was clothed in its deep turbid flood.

فَلَمّا أَن أَتَينَ عَلى أَرومٍ

فَلَمّا أَن أَتَينَ عَلى أَرومٍ

وَجُذَّ الحَبلُ وَاِنقَطَعَ الإِمارُ

وَجُذَّ الحَبلُ وَاِنقَطَعَ الإِمارُ

Then, when they came to Arūm,

But when we came to high ground,

And the cord was severed and the bond was broken.

The rope was untied and the tokens put off.
