وَإِنّيand indeed I أَخوهُمtheir brother عِندَat كُلِّevery مُلِمَّةٍcalamity
إِذاwhen مُتُّI die لَمwill not يَلقَواthey find أَخاًa brother لَهُمُfor them مِثليlike me
And indeed I am their brother in every calamity.
And I am their brother in every affliction,
When I die, they will find no brother like me.
When they die, they will not find a brother like me.
تَجودُgives generously لَهُمto them نَفسيmy soul بِماof what مَلَكَتhas possessed يَديmy hand
وَنَصريand my aid فَلاso no فُحشيmy abusive speech عَلَيهُمagainst them وَلاnor بُخليmy stinginess
My soul freely gives them whatever my hand possesses,
My soul gives generously to them with what my hands possess,
And my aid; they suffer neither my abuse nor my stinginess.
My help, so no shamefulness upon them, nor my stinginess.
وَمَولىًand an ally دَفَعتُI warded off الدَرءَharm عَنهُfrom him تَكَرَّماًout of generosity
وَلَوand had شِئتُI wished أَمسىhe reached evening وَهوَwhile he مُغضٍwith eyes lowered عَلىover تَبلِa grudge
And from an ally I warded off harm, out of generosity.
And for a master whom I defend driving harm away from him out of nobility,
And had I wished, he would have reached evening with eyes lowered, bearing a grudge.
If I wished he would spend the evening angry with me out of disrespect,
وَلَكِنَّنيand yet I أَحميI protect الذِمارَwhat must be defended وَأَنتَميand I trace my lineage
إِلىto سَعيِthe striving of آباءٍforefathers نَمَواthey raised شَرَفيmy honor قَبليbefore me
And yet I defend what is mine to guard and trace my lineage
But I protect those blamed and belong
To the striving of forefathers who raised my honor before me.
To the path of fathers who grew my nobility before me.
