بانوا فصار الجسم من بعدهم
معتزلاًwithdrawing from أثوابهُits garments عيّاthrough weakness
معتزلاً أثوابهُ عيّا
They departed, and after them the body grew
Estranged from its garments through weakness.
وذابand it melted away حتىuntil صارit became منfrom هجرهمtheir desertion
وذاب حتى صار من هجرهم
ماnot تصنعmakes الشمسthe sun لهfor it فيّاa shadow
ما تصنع الشمس له فيّا
It melted away through their desertion, until
The sun could cast no shadow for it.
بايwith what وجهface اتلقاهمshall I meet them
باي وجه اتلقاهم
انif لمnot أمتI die فيin حبهمlove for them طيّاfolded away
ان لم أمت في حبهم طيّا
With what face shall I meet them,
If I am not folded away in death for love of them?
أكونI shall be منof دينthe faith الهوىlove خالياًdevoid
أكون من دين الهوى خالياً
إذاif رأونيthey see me بعدهمafter their departure حيّاalive
إذا رأوني بعدهم حيّا
I shall be devoid of the faith of love
If they see me alive after their departure.
