O friend whose absence has made me waste away,

O my beloved, you have forgotten me after being close

And my ardent love for him has grown.

كيف تسلو مغرما في حبكم

وإلى م تنأى عنه ولما

How can you forget one enamored of you?

How can you console a lover sick for your love

And how long will you stay away from him—and why?

When you avoid him, why?

قم وبادر واغتنم لثم يد

قم وبادر واغتنم لثم يد

من أمير في علاه قد سما

من أمير في علاه قد سما

Rise, hasten, and seize the chance to kiss the hand

Rise, take the initiative, seize the chance to kiss a hand

Of an emir who has risen high in his eminence.

Of a noble master exalted on high

حيث لا عذر لكم في مرفع

حيث لا عذر لكم في مرفع

لا ولا في خوف ثلج قد هما

لا ولا في خوف ثلج قد هما

For Shrovetide affords you no excuse,

You have no excuse to avoid meeting him

No, nor does fear of snow that has poured down.

Neither from fear of melting snow

إذ نرى أمنا برؤيا مجده

إذ نرى أمنا برؤيا مجده

ومن المرفع عيدا أعظما

ومن المرفع عيدا أعظما

For we see safety in beholding his glory,

Since we see safety in the glory of his visage

And a feast greater than Shrovetide.

And from his lofty abode, a greater feast

فاكتسب فوزا بلقيا ماجد

فاكتسب فوزا بلقيا ماجد

خلّد اللَه عليه النعما

خلّد اللَه عليه النعما

So gain success by meeting a noble man—

So earn merit in the encounter with the glorious one

May God perpetuate the blessings upon him.

May God eternalize his bounty

حيثما الثلج تولى ذائبا

حيثما الثلج تولى ذائبا

وكذا مرفعنا ما قدما

وكذا مرفعنا ما قدما

Now that the snow has receded, melting away,

Wherever the snow turns to melt

And our Shrovetide, too, has not arrived.

And so our lofty dwelling remains
