Look at the river—how much delight it has revealed to us!
Look at the river, how much joy it showed us

And two trees have taken root on its two banks,
And two trees on its banks stood still
facing each other like a beloved and one who loves.
Facing each other like a lover and the one he loves

As though one of them had appeared as a beauty,
It's as if one of them is the beautiful beloved
and the other were her lover, lamenting to her his burning anguish.
And the other her lover complaining to her of his burning passion
