فوارfountain بيتhouse الدينthe faith يسموrises علىabove
فوار بيت الدين يسمو على
فوارfountain جيرونٍJayrun وذاand this مشهرُwell known
فوار جيرونٍ وذا مشهرُ
The fountain of Bayt al-Din rises above
Jayrun’s fountain, and this is well known.
كأنهas though it were والسروand the cypresses منfrom حولهaround it
كأنه والسرو من حوله
مولىًa lord علىupon الوفدthe delegation عطاًgifts ينثرُhe scatters
مولىً على الوفد عطاً ينثرُ
It is as though, with the cypresses around it,
It were a lord scattering gifts upon the delegation.
وإنand if تسلyou ask جيرونJayrun عنهabout it يقلit will say
وإن تسل جيرون عنه يقل
ياO صاحِfriend إنيindeed I عبدهits servant إلاexcept (apparently part of the intended 'the lesser') صغرsmallness (apparently intended as 'lesser')
يا صاحِ إني عبده إلا صغر
And if you ask Jayrun about it, it will say:
“O friend, I am its [lesser] servant.”
