1. أضحى الهناء جميلا في تلاقينا

    وغاب عاذلنا واغتاظ واشينا

    Joy became beautiful in our meeting.

    And our reproacher vanished, and our slanderer grew enraged.

  2. وجاء ركب مليك الروح من سفر

    واطرب العيس بالألحان حادينا

    And the retinue of the soul's sovereign came from a journey.

    And our camel-driver delighted the pale camels with melodies.

  3. وقام داعي سرور الانس في طرب

    وغمر العز بالبشرى صحارينا

    And the herald of joyous companionship arose in rapture.

    And glory flooded our deserts with glad tidings.

  4. وغرّد السعد كالقمري في سحر

    والورق ساجعةٌ تبدو أفانينا

    And good fortune sang like a turtledove before dawn.

    And the gray doves cooed, revealing varied strains.

  5. وجاءت الريح بالأفراح راوية

    شذاء عطر سرى صبحا بوادينا

    And the wind came bringing joys, telling of

    a perfume's fragrance that drifted through our valley at morning.

  6. وانكف جنح الدجا مذبان عن قمر

    اضحت بإشراقه تزهز نواحينا

    And night's dark wing withdrew, giving way to a moon.

    Our regions came to flourish in his radiance.

  7. رامت تغطي الليالي نوره فبدا

    كالصبح زمادته إيضاحاً وتبيينا

    The nights sought to hide his light, but it shone forth

    like dawn; they made it clearer and more manifest.

  8. هذا عليّ الرضى والأسعدي بما

    وافى يشير به هل من يضاهينا

    This is Ali al-Rida, al-As'adi, who, through what

    he came bearing, declares: 'Can anyone rival us?'

  9. هذا الأمير الذي العليا به ابتهجت

    حتى هناءً بعلياه تهادينا

    This is the prince through whom lofty glory rejoiced,

    until we exchanged congratulations on his eminence.

  10. مذ حل جلق قام المجد فيها له

    وبان عن فضله مما يسامينا

    Since he alighted in Jilliq, glory rose there for him.

    And his excellence shone forth amid what vies with us.

  11. وسار للساحل الرومي في همم

    سنية فحوى عزاً وتمكينا

    And he journeyed to the coast of Rum with aspirations

    lofty, and so gained honor and secure dominion.

  12. دعا له المجد في نيل المنى سحرا

    أجابه السعد من أعلاه أمينا

    Glory prayed before dawn that he might attain his hopes.

    Good fortune answered from on high: 'Amen.'

  13. ذو غرةٍ حببت للناس طلعتها

    وزادها اللَه بالأنوار تزيينا

    He has a radiant brow whose appearance the people hold dear.

    And God increased its adornment with lights.

  14. وحين عم بفضل كل ناحية

    قامت لديه بنو العليا محبينا

    And when he encompassed every region with bounty,

    the sons of lofty rank stood before him in loving devotion.

  15. غيثُ سماحته والغوث ساحته

    فكم نعاطي بها من كاس صافينا

    His generosity is rain; his courtyard is refuge.

    How many a cup of our true friend's we have shared there!

  16. طابت معالمه جادت مكارمه

    أبو المعالي به حزنا معالينا

    His hallmarks are fair; his noble deeds flow freely.

    Father of lofty honors—through him we gained our own high rank.

  17. وكم ظفرنا بنيل من مواهبه

    جودا وكم برزت آثاره فينا

    And how often we have won a share of his gifts,

    generously bestowed; and how often his deeds have appeared among us!

  18. فهذه منح مولاه أحكمها

    أحكام لطف فجل اللَه بارينا

    These, then, are gifts his Lord has perfected

    with gracious perfection—exalted is God, our Creator!

  19. فلا معدّ ولا عبس ولا مضر

    نالوا الذي قد بلغنا من تهانينا

    For neither Ma'add nor 'Abs nor Mudar

    attained the congratulations that we have received.

  20. هذا السني الذي حزنا الثناء به

    وعمنا الفضل قاصينا ودانينا

    This is the illustrious one through whom we have won praise.

    And bounty embraced us, those far away and those near.

  21. به سمونا على هام السماك وإن

    نشهد قتالا فيمناه عيانينا

    Through him we rose above al-Simak's heights, and if

    we witness battle, his right hand is before our very eyes.

  22. سل المعالي وسل سمر العوالي وسل

    سود الليالي وسل عنه الدواوينا

    Ask lofty honors; ask the brown spears; and ask

    the dark nights; ask the records about him.

  23. من آل أسعد مخطوب السعادة من

    قوم كرام إلى العلياء مجدينا

    Of the house of As'ad, courted by happiness, from

    a noble people striving earnestly toward the heights.

  24. سل الرماح وسل بيض الصفاح وسل

    يوم الكفاح وسل عنه أعادينا

    Ask the spears; ask the bright sword blades; and ask

    the day of combat; ask our enemies about him.

  25. أيا عليا سما سامي العلى واتى

    بالنصر مقتفيا آيات ياسينا

    O Ali, you rose, exalted in glory, and came

    with victory, following the verses of Ya-Sin.

  26. خذها بعفو لقد وافقت على عجل

    لروض فضل قطفنا منه ماشينا

    Accept it indulgently; in haste it came to suit

    a garden of bounty from which we plucked as we walked.

  27. كم أهل فضل بديع بالثنا نظموا

    باب جودك من قبلي دواوينا

    How many men of wondrous merit have composed in praise

    at your gate of generosity, before me, volumes of verse!

  28. لكنها بالهنا جاءت تقول لنا

    أضحى الهناء جميلا في تلاقينا

    Yet it came with joy, saying to us:

    Joy became beautiful in our meeting.
