I said to the gazelle whose cheek

puts the full moon and the sun’s light to shame:

Shames the moon and outshines the sun,

ما الذي اسمع من جيرتكم

ما الذي اسمع من جيرتكم

قال هيّاني شيخ الدبسي

قال هيّاني شيخ الدبسي

“What is that I hear from your neighbors?”

"What have I heard from your neighbors?"

He said, “Shaykh al-Dibsi called out to me.”

He said, "The old man Dipsy teased me."
