For a graceful maiden who enchants the heart whenever she meets it.

With a smile whenever I meet her, she enchants me

Since she forsook me and the best of patience fled,

Since she left me and patience deserted me at its best

I asked her about my heart: where does it dwell?

لأنه ضاع مني عند مسراها

For it was lost to me when she passed by night.

Because it was lost to me when she departed

So her smile widened in wonder when she heard

فافتر مبسمها عجباً وقد طلعت

في وجنتيها نجوم الورد إذ سمعت

Then her smiling mouth parted in wonder, and there rose

And stars of roses bloomed on her cheeks

On her cheeks the stars of roses when she heard.

And when she understood what I said, she replied

وعندما فهمت ما قلته رجعت

قالت لدي قلوب جمةٌ جمعت

And when she understood what I had said, she turned back.

"I have many hearts with me I have gathered"

She said, "I have many hearts that I have gathered;

So which one is yours, I said, O my torment!

فأيها أنت تعني قلت أشقاها

فأيها أنت تعني قلت أشقاها

So which of them do you mean?" I said, "The most wretched of them."
