الاربّ يوم زارني خطهُ الذي
كثغرlike the mouth of حبيبٍa beloved بالرضابwith saliva ترصّعاwas bejeweled
كثغر حبيبٍ بالرضاب ترصّعا
Ah, many a day his handwriting came to visit me—
The discerning one's writing visited me one day,
like a beloved’s mouth, bejeweled with nectar.
Like a beloved's mouth, bejeweled with saliva.
فعانقتهُso I embraced it ماas ضمembraced حبٌa lover حبيبهhis beloved
فعانقتهُ ما ضم حبٌ حبيبه
وقبلتهُand I kissed it شوقاًlongingly علىupon النحرthe upper chest أربعاfour times
وقبلتهُ شوقاً على النحر أربعا
I embraced it as no lover ever clasped his beloved,
So I embraced it as a lover embraces his beloved,
and, longing, kissed it four times upon the throat.
And longingly kissed it four times upon the upper chest.
