Ah, dear friend who leaves behind one consumed by love,

May God be with you wherever you journey.

By my life, my life's last spark nearly melted—

From parting and estrangement, as you indicate.

So my passion suffices me, and sleeplessness is my boon companion,

And portions of passion's fires seethe.

This farewell has indeed dismayed me; yet only

With what God has decreed do I remain patient.

For though you are absent and your dwelling lies far away,

Still, your home is my heart, and within it you surge.

    فذي خلفكم تجري وذاك يطيرُ

    And I have a burning liver and a heart consumed by love;

So this runs after you, and that flies.

So travel under protection, for reunion is brought near

With my God's help, and separation is brief.

And I truly hope to see you [word unclear in the source],

And joy be yours through attaining what you seek.
