A tomb holds Yusuf al-Hajjar, for whom
A grief to the stones is Joseph though he passed away
clouds of tears have begun to pour at his parting.
His separation drew tears that pour and stray

يشدو بأظهار الحقوق ويهتفُ
He who upheld the law of commerce
He who was well versed in the ways of honest trade

Upholding rights, integrity on display

He met death while embracing piety,
Met his death while morality he did embrace

Alas for that virtuous man, such deep remorse
And in every heart are grief and sorrow.
With all my heart, remorse and regret hold sway

Yet, radiant among the righteous—record the date:
But with the righteous he dwells, his light does loom
In the garden of the heavenly kingdom, Yusuf shone forth.
In the garden of heaven shines bright Joseph
