إنindeed للروحfor the soul فيin دمشقDamascus لمأوىsurely a haven
إن للروح في دمشق لمأوى
ذاpossessing قرارrepose وذاand possessing معينflowing water وربوةand a hill
ذا قرار وذا معين وربوة
Who can give the soul, in Damascus, a haven—
Indeed, in Damascus the soul has a haven,
one endowed with repose, flowing water, and a hill,
With repose, flowing water, and a hill.
وبروضاتهاand in its meadows بساتينgardens وردroses
وبروضاتها بساتين ورد
ليI have بأزرارهاfor their buds صبابةardent longing عروةUrwa
لي بأزرارها صبابة عروة
with gardens of roses in its lush meadows?
And in its meadows are gardens of roses;
For their buds I bear the lovesick yearning of ʿUrwa.
For their buds I feel the longing of Urwa.
