جزت النقا فحويت لين غصونه

وكثيب واديه وجيد غزاله

وكثيب واديه وجيد غزاله

I crossed al-Naqā and watered its tender boughs,

You crossed the sandhill and so gained the suppleness of its branches,

its dune and its valley, and the neck of its gazelle.

And the dune of its valley and the neck of its gazelle;

وأخذت حسن البدر منه وقد بدا

وأخذت حسن البدر منه وقد بدا

في أفقه بتمامه وكماله

في أفقه بتمامه وكماله

And from it I took the full moon’s beauty, as it appeared

And you took from it the full moon’s beauty, when it had appeared

upon its horizon in all its fullness and perfection.
