حَيّاmay it greet وَسَقىand water الحِمىthe protected grounds سَحابٌa cloud هاميpouring
حَيّا وَسَقى الحِمى سَحابٌ هامي
ماhow كانَwas ألذّdelightful عامَهits year مِنas (explanatory) عامِa year
ما كانَ ألذّ عامَه مِن عامِ
May a pouring cloud greet and water the protected grounds!
How delightful its year was!
ياO عَلوَʿAlwa وَماand never ذَكَرتُI recalled أَيّامَكُمyour days
يا عَلوَ وَما ذَكَرتُ أَيّامَكُم
إِلّاexcept وَتَظَلَّمتُand I complained of injustice عَلىagainst الأَيّامِthe days
إِلّا وَتَظَلَّمتُ عَلى الأَيّامِ
O ʿAlwa, never have I recalled your days
Without complaining of the days’ injustice.
