1. لي حَبيبٌ مَن رَآهُ

    جَنَّ في الحالِ جُنون

    I have a beloved; whoever sees him

    Goes stark mad that very instant.

  2. حُبُّهُ زينَةُ قَلبي

    لَيسَ مالاً وَبَنون

    Love for him is my heart's adornment,

    Not wealth and sons.

  3. ليتهُ يَرضى وَأُسقى

    في تَجَنّيهِ المَنون

    Would that he were pleased, though I be made to drink

    Death amid his cruelty.

  4. ما لِعُشّاقِ سُلَيمي

    في الهَوى لا يَعقِلون

    What ails Sulayma's lovers,

    That they lose all reason in love?

  5. رَقَدَ العالَمُ جَمعاً

    وَهُمُ لا يَرقُدون

    All the world has fallen asleep,

    Yet they do not sleep.

  6. ما عَلَيهِم مِن مَلامٍ

    في هَواها يَعذُرون

    No blame rests upon them;

    They are excused for loving her.

  7. تَرَكوا اللَذاتِ لَمّا

    عَلِموا ما يَطلُبون

    They abandoned pleasures when

    They knew what they sought.

  8. آه مِن داءٍ بِقَلبي

    ما لَهُ الدَهرُ سُكون

    Alas for a sickness in my heart

    That never, through all time, finds rest.

  9. كُلَّما اِشتَقتُ إِلَيها

    فاضَ مِن دَمعي عُيون

    Whenever I yearn for her,

    Springs gush forth from my tears.

  10. ما لَقى مَجنونُ لَيلى

    بَعضَ ما ذُقتُ جُنون

    Layla's Majnun never knew

    A fraction of the madness I have tasted.

  11. عَشِقَ الناسُ وَلَكِن

    مِثل عِشقي لا يَكون

    People have loved, but

    There is no love like mine.

  12. سادَتي أَن تَصِلوني

    رَحمَةً أَو تَهجُرون

    My lords, whether you grant me union

    Out of mercy, or forsake me,

  13. لَيسَ لي عَنكُم بِديلٌ

    أَبَداً لَو تَعلمون

    I have no substitute for you,

    Ever, if you but knew.

  14. كَلَفي فيكُم قَديماً

    مِن زَمانٍ تَعهَدون

    My long-standing passion for you

    You have known for ages.
