قدindeed سَلَّhas drawn سَيفُthe sword اللَحظِof the glance فيناagainst us وِصالand charged
وَاِحرَباalas, the assault! مِنهُfrom him وَياand O لِلرِجالto the men (for help)
He has drawn the sword of his glance against us and charged.
The sword of the glance has severed our union
Alas for his assault! And O men, to my aid!
And struck us - how valiant are men!
لَوif شاءَhe wished أَنthat تَخمِدَdie down ليof mine زَفرَةٌa sigh
لَمdid not يَثنِbend عِطفَيهِhis two sides الصِباyouth وَالدَلالand coyness
Had he wished a sigh of mine to die down,
Had he wished a sigh of mine to fade
youth and coyness would not have swayed his waist.
He would not have bent his shoulders, youth and coquetry.
مَولايَmy lord لاno صَبرَpatience وَلاand no سَلوَةٌsolace
قَدindeed بَرَّحَhas tormented الشَوقُlonging وزادَand increased الخَبالmadness
My lord, I have neither patience nor solace.
My Master, there is no patience or solace -
Longing has tormented me, and madness has grown.
Yearning has fretted me and confusion grows.

Whether you cut me off or join me
I cannot do without you, whatever the circumstances.
I have no choice with you in any case.
