    The star, Najm al-Din, journeyed by night, bound for the West,

    from the East, to meet the lamp of learning.

    So I said to him: O Najm, convey my greeting,

    and my remembrance, and thanks for generosity and favors.

    تجد كل مجد من تليد وطارف

    And visit the dwellings of Ibn Malik in the hills of Najd;

    you will find every glory, inherited and newly won.

    And camp beside Sahl, for Sahl's precinct

    is spacious for the rover of deserts and barren wastes.

    And when you meet him, let your eye rejoice in his nearness,

    for he will regard meeting you as one of the delights.

    And take from him what you will recount, if you come to Mecca,

    to every pilgrim chanting the talbiyah and going round the sacred sites.

    فيا حسن موصوف ويا حسن واصف

    And describe his excellence to your people, the descendants of the two grandsons;

    how fine the one described, and how fine the describer!
