I kept placing my hopes in Abu Hafs and his conduct,

Until you married using the poor’s provisions.

You, sons of Nasr, have given your maiden in marriage

To a face that mars the faces of the wide-eyed herd of wild cattle.

You married her neither to a man of means who could sustain others,

Nor to a brave man when the staff of religion is split.

O son of al-Zubayr, you have indeed appointed him—a lustful man,

Tight-fisted, miserly, and anything but impotent.

No wealth comes within his reach that he will leave untouched,

Nor does he say of what he is given, “It is enough for me.”
