بعض أخلائي صار ميْتاً

بعض أخلائي صار ميْتاً

وبعضهم فِي البلاء غائبْ

وبعضهم فِي البلاء غائبْ

Some of my close friends have died,

and some are absent in adversity.

وبعضُهم حاضر ولكن

وبعضُهم حاضر ولكن

يُحصى ويُقصى ولا يقارب

يُحصى ويُقصى ولا يقارب

And some are present, but

are counted, kept at a distance, and not approached.

وصرت بَيْنَ الورى وحيداً

وصرت بَيْنَ الورى وحيداً

فلا قريبٌ ولا مناسِب

فلا قريبٌ ولا مناسِب

And I have become alone among humankind,

with neither kin nor kindred spirit.

فلا تَلُمني عَلَى اكتِئابي

فلا تَلُمني عَلَى اكتِئابي

سُرورُ مثلي من العجائِب

سُرورُ مثلي من العجائِب

So do not blame me for my dejection;

joy in one like me is a marvel.
