أسْتَمْلِحI find delightful البَرْقَthe lightning الحِجَازِيَّاof the Hijaz
My soul is carried away with rapture whenever
My soul delights in rapture when
I delight in the lightning of the Hijaz.
I catch sight of Hijazi lightning,
ويَستخفُّand carries away الوجدُyearning عقليmy reason وَقَدْalthough already
أصبحَhas become ليfor me حسنُsoundness of الحجَىjudgment زَيَّاa garb
And yearning carries away my reason, though
And passion makes my reason drunk, while
sound judgment has become my garb.
Pilgrim garb becomes my fancy's ornament.
يَاهَلoh, shall...? أقضَىI fulfill حاجتيmy desire منْfrom منيMina
وَأَنْحَرُand slaughter البُزّلthe mature camels المَهاريَّاthe Mahri camels
Oh, shall I obtain what I seek from Mina
O, would that I might gain my wish, depart
and slaughter the mature Mahri camels?
From Minā, sacrifice my pattering camels,
فأرتويthen I drink my fill منfrom زَمزَمZamzam فهيfor it is ليto me
ألَذُّsweeter مِنthan رِيقthe saliva of المَهاthe oryxes ريَّاin quenching thirst
Then I would drink my fill of Zamzam, for to me it is
And drink of Zamzam till my thirst is slaked
a sweeter draught than the saliva of oryxes.
With drafts more lucious than red ruby wine.
