أخفيت سقمي حتى كاد يخفيني

أخفيت سقمي حتى كاد يخفيني

وهمت في حُبِّ عَزونٍ فعزوني

وهمت في حُبِّ عَزونٍ فعزوني

I hid my sickness until it nearly hid me.

I concealed my sickness until it almost concealed me

And I was lost in love for ʿAzūn, so console me.

And became obsessed with an aloof beloved, so it made me aloof

ثم ارحموني برحمون فإن ظمئت

ثم ارحموني برحمون فإن ظمئت

نفسي إلى ريق حَسّونٍ فحسّوني

نفسي إلى ريق حَسّونٍ فحسّوني

Then have mercy on me with Raḥmūn; and if there is thirst

Then have mercy upon me, have mercy

in my soul for Ḥassūn’s saliva, give me a sip.

For my soul thirsts for the saliva of a beautiful one, so quench me
