Hind came complaining to her mother.

So glory be to Him who joined the two luminaries!

Then she said to her, "Indeed, this morning light

came to me and kissed me twice,

and fled; then, when night's darkness saw me,

he gave me two locks of his hair.

And he was not afraid, Mother, but embraced me

and laid two stars upon my smiling mouth.

And he melted some of his color into a liquid

and with it lined both my eyes with kohl.

And I came to the garden, O my garden,

and he meant to do as the first two had.

So I hid my face, but he

stretched both hands toward my bosom, Mother.

And oh, my amazement when I opened my eye

and saw two pomegranates in my bosom!

And the branch kept at me until he bent

at my foot, prostrating himself twice.

There were two roses upon his head,

so he offered me those two roses.

And I feared the branch when

his leaves murmured two words into my ear.

So I went to the sea to cool off,

and he burdened me—woe to him!—with two waves.

No sooner had I walked than both surged up

at my two haunches, rippling like the sea.

He is the sea, Mother: how many a youth

is drowned, and how many a youth is in between!

    فبالله يا أُمِّ ماذا تَرَيْنْ

    So here I am, complaining to you of them all;

so, by God, Mother, what do you think?"

    Then her mother said, laughing,

and swaying with pride in two mantles:

"I have known them, one by one,

and have twice tasted what you tasted."
