مَنَعتَ الغُسلَ في الحَمّا

مَنَعتَ الغُسلَ في الحَمّا

مِ وَالغُسلُ لَهُ عادَه

مِ وَالغُسلُ لَهُ عادَه

You forbade bathing in the bath-

house, though bathing is customary there.

وَما أَحوَجَني صاحِ

وَما أَحوَجَني صاحِ

إِلى حَمّامِ حَمّادَه

إِلى حَمّامِ حَمّادَه

And how great my need, my friend,

for Hammada’s bathhouse!

قَضاها اللَهُ مِن مِسكٍ

قَضاها اللَهُ مِن مِسكٍ

وَمِن عَنبَرَةٍ غادَه

وَمِن عَنبَرَةٍ غادَه

God fashioned her from musk,

and from ambergris—a graceful maiden.

وَدونَ لِقائِها لَيلاً

وَدونَ لِقائِها لَيلاً

أَسودُ الجِنِّ وَالسادَه

أَسودُ الجِنِّ وَالسادَه

And barring a meeting with her at night

stand the black one of the jinn and the masters.

وَعَينُ الصَقرِ تَرعاني

وَعَينُ الصَقرِ تَرعاني

وَتِلكَ العَينُ وَقّادَه

وَتِلكَ العَينُ وَقّادَه

And the falcon’s eye watches me,

and that eye is blazing.

فَلَستُ لَها بِمُعتادٍ

فَلَستُ لَها بِمُعتادٍ

وَلَيسَت لي بِمُعتادَه

وَلَيسَت لي بِمُعتادَه

So I am not accustomed to her,

nor is she accustomed to me.

دَنا أَجَلي وَما أَسلو

دَنا أَجَلي وَما أَسلو

وَما يَلقى مَعَ الذادَه

وَما يَلقى مَعَ الذادَه

My end has drawn near, yet I do not forget her,

and what one endures with those who bar the way!
