يَدخُلُ بَعدَ العِشاءِ في العَرَبِ

They sat down and chose for themselves a pedigree

They sat and selected the finest wines,

That enters among the Arabs after nightfall,

Entering after supper into conversation -

حَتّى إِذا ما الصَباحُ لاحَ لَهُم

حَتّى إِذا ما الصَباحُ لاحَ لَهُم

بَيَّنَ سَتّوقَهُم مِنَ الذَهَبِ

بَيَّنَ سَتّوقَهُم مِنَ الذَهَبِ

Until, when morning dawned upon them,

Until when morning shone upon them

It distinguished their counterfeit coin from gold.

Their drinking-cups of gold made clear the tale
