O Khidāsh, you are the son of the three—
You are the son of the three, there are not three above them
no three stand above them:
For Yazid son of Mukhallad
لِيَزيدٍof Yazīd بنِson of مُخَلَّدٍMukhallad
ثُمَّthen المُهَلَّبِal-Muhallab ذيpossessed of النَباثَهkeen discernment
of Yazīd, son of Mukhallad,
Then Al-Muhallab of active vigor
then al-Muhallab, possessed of keen discernment.
Through them the lofty lineages branched out

وَنَزَلتَand you descended مِنfrom بَلَدٍa land دِماثَهsoftness of soil
Through them, glory put forth its branches,
And you descended from a blood-stained land
and you came down from a land of gentle soil.
Those who descended upon Al-Maniya with swords have belongings for them

Those who descend upon death
A people who settled you in the abodes
with swords, in eager haste;
And built your building amidst bloodshed

a people who set you upon the summits
So those who guarantee their neighbor
and built your edifice in gentleness;
And for every refuge there is salvation

A band for the staffs of kings, not inheriting
and every place of refuge relief.
From virtues anything but legacy

A band riding the timbers of kings,
They went away while their inheritance perplexed you
never holding back from noble deeds.
And a man makes up his own legacy

They departed, and you acquired their inheritance,
So plow the plowing of a father
and a man fashions his own inheritance.
Who was most generous to it his legacy

So till as a father tilled,
And leave the finding fault, indeed it
whose tillage was generosity.

Complete with the excellence of a hand, a hand
procrastination is a blight upon success.
Completion indeed has legacy for it

Complete one hand with another hand's bounty:
indeed, perfection has an inheritance of its own.
