حَظّيmy share مِنَof الخَيرِgood مَنحوسٌill-starred وَأَعجَبُand the strangest ماwhat
إِنّيindeed I أَراهُI see it عَلىdespite الحِرمانِdeprivation مَحسودُenvied
My share of good is ill-starred, and strangest of all:
I see it envied even in deprivation.
I go forth in the morning وَأُمسيand I reach evening وَآماليand my hopes قَطَعتُI have spent بِهاwith them
عُمريmy life تَخيبُfail وَأَعماليand my deeds المَواعيدُpromises
I go forth at morning and reach evening; my hopes, with which I have spent
my life, fail, and my deeds are promises.
وَأكرَمُand the most generous الناسِof people مَنthe one who تَأتيcome مَواهِبُهُhis gifts
مِنfrom غَيرِother than وَعدٍa promise وَفيهِand in him الخَيرُgoodness موجودُis found
And the most generous of people is he whose gifts come
without a promise, and in whom goodness is found.
